Norfolk is still a stronghold for some of the country’s great and rare wildlife.
Imagine going to just one place, inspecting the glorious swallowtail butterfly in it’s natural environment suspended on a …………. . then the offer of distraction;  the clear winged Norfolk Hawker, patrolling above the Water Soldier keeping those green eyes peeled for the red flash of a Hobby. Unquestionably that’s good enough,.. isn’t it?
But the balmy sun still glows, and wind breathes, eddying warm fecund air while you wander onward feeling lethargy tiptoe in, as, instantly diverted by the impulsive song of a distant Chettis, the brilliant yellow collar of a Grass Snake, stopped motionless, catches your, once again, animated eye.
Well, the great news is that true encounters like this still occur in Norfolk and with ever increasing regularity, with the help of steadfast conservationists and volunteers, who are unceasingly working and managing the fascinating variety of diverse habitats to build a viable and sustainable future for this flora and fauna in turn making life better for us all.
Probably the best opportunity to encounter the wildlife and experience the diversity of their habitat is to visit a nature reserve. To help you on your way we've  written a personal  guide to our favourite Norfolk broads nature reserves; from the well known and near legendary haunts to the occasionally overlooked, and sometimes surprisingly less familiar jewels of the Norfolk landscape.

Wilds of Norfolk was set up because of our unquenchable enthusiasm for the Norfolk Broads,  our small part of the natural world. We thought we'd like to try and give something back by helping other people enjoy the countryside and it's wildlife as well as do our own little bit to promote an interest in the natural world and it's conservation , not only for the wildlife but for the sheer exuberance of the precious life we're lucky enough to get the chance to live.
